CUNY is partnering with the New York Yankees to identify students and alumni for career and business opportunities with the historic franchise.

This partnership is a result of the creation of the New York Yankees Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which seeks to identify and address issues related to equality, racial justice and inclusivity.

“We are thrilled to expose our students and student-athletes to career opportunities with one of the biggest brands in global sports and our NYC neighbors,” said CUNYAC Commissioner Zak Ivkovic. “We’re excited for all the planning for the benefit of our CUNYAC population.”

This is the first time CUNY, the largest urban university system in the United States, has created this kind of partnership with a professional sports team. And for it to be with the 27-time World Series Champions undoubtedly adds intrigue to the announcement.

“At The City University of New York, we understand the value of collaboration and team building to achieve important goals, which is why we are thrilled to partner with the New York Yankees,” said CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez.

The relationship between the two parties will also include direct immersion into the New York Yankees Sport Management Mentoring Program.

For the Yankees, this is a partnership that is not only a philanthropic gesture for the community of New York City, but a way to get some of the sharpest young minds in sports and business to help the Yankees continue to grow and prosper. For CUNY, this is a chance to help its students achieve (for many of them) the ultimate goal: to start working for a professional sports team. The partnership makes sense for both sides, and the coming semesters will reveal just how much of an impact this partnership will have on CUNY students. Interested students should visit the CUNY internship portal to see new opportunities through the Yankees.
