By Owen Russell
Journeying into the CUNYAC competition, the Bulldogs find themselves sliding down the rankings after two straight losses.
Brooklyn squared off against CCNY at the West Quad Center on Mar. 10. The Bulldogs battled the Beavers bravely but could not make it work, losing three straight sets. Brooklyn kept each contest close, losing by no more than five in any set (25-20, 25-20, 25-23). In the loss, Brooklyn recorded 10 aces, led by junior Omar Rezika with five. Junior David Li led the Bulldogs in kills, earning eight for his team.
Coming off their eighth loss of the season, Brooklyn hoped to bounce back on Mar. 12 against John Jay. The Bulldogs dropped two quick sets to the Bloodhounds (25-19, 25-23). Backs against the wall, Brooklyn dug in and won the third set 25-20, avoiding a second straight sweep. The third set victory wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback, as the Bulldogs dropped the fourth and final set, 25-17. Junior Zhao Ming Li led the team and the game in kills, scoring nine total.
With a conference record of 1-3, the Bulldogs currently stand as fifth in the CUNYAC. The team will hope to regain footing on Mar. 15 against second-place Hunter College.

The Brooklyn College men’s tennis team recorded their first win in over 1,000 days this past week.
In their first home game of the season, Brooklyn hosted SUNY Purchase on Mar. 10. The Bulldogs eked out a 5-4 win against the Panthers. After suffering a loss in #1 doubles, the Bulldogs won both #2 and #3 doubles. In singles competition, Brooklyn split the decision. Purchase won singles #1-#3, and Brooklyn took #4 – #6. Sophomores Aymen Kuc and Dennis Lagoda recorded impressive victories to help give Brooklyn the edge.
For the Bulldogs, Thursday’s victory is certainly a weight off their shoulders. Picking up their first win in over two years, the Bulldogs look to compile victories and rise in the rankings.
