Men’s Swimming Team Finishes Third Place in CUNYAC Championships

   The Bulldogs were able to get third place in the CUNYAC championship, only behind Baruch and Lehman College. As a result, they will be headed to the Metro Championships, which take place on Feb. 16 to Feb. 18. 

   Freshman Michael Kravets was the star of the competition for the Bulldogs. Kravets was able to win both the mile freestyle and the butterfly, aiding him in winning his first two gold medals. In the 200 backstroke competition, Joe Scarpetta was able to earn three points for the Bulldogs. Max Bratkovsky swam to a bronze medal in the breaststroke. All these individual great performances earned the Bulldogs an honor they’ve never achieved in the past. Scarpetta is a sophomore and Kravets is a freshman, which is encouraging for the future of the men’s swim team. The men’s team is off to compete at the Metro championships this coming weekend at Rutgers University. 

 

Women’s Swimming Team Impresses at CUNYAC Championships

   The women’s swim and dive team finished third in the CUNAC championships. This is a huge milestone, as it is their biggest accomplishment in program history.The Bulldogs have never finished with this high of a ranking in the CUNYAC championship, which puts them in a great position to win in Metros this coming weekend. 

    Erin Forrest had a standout performance for the Bulldogs. Forrest won two gold medals in the mile freestyle and was key in the Bulldogs’ bronze medal victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Gurveen Dhallu finished first for the Bulldogs in the 200 backstroke. They’ll have the chance to keep making team history by competing at the Metro Championship for the first time in program history this coming weekend. 

 

Men’s Basketball Team Wins Three In A Row

   The Bulldogs had an impressive week against three CUNYs, and now hold a 7-17 record of  seven wins and 17 losses this season. 

   On Feb. 3, they beat John Jay with a final score of 77-54. Malik Dale, who had a big 30 point day while also draining in six threes, displayed a masterclass of skill as star of the team. Freshman Altin Kujak had 13 points and 7 rebounds as well as two steals. John Jay is one of the Bulldogs’ considerable rivals, and the Bulldog’s recent victories positioned them as formidable competition against them. 

   From there, the Bulldogs defeated York College with a final score of 69-67 on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Jaden Casanova cemented himself as a promising player this game, as Casanova played a big 20 points 10 rebounds game. Head coach Jefferey Baptiste has recently allowed the younger talent to play big minutes and it recently resulted in a number of wins for the team. The men’s team is on a trajectory to keep winning as they prepare to face City College on Tuesday, Feb. 13. 

 

Women’s Basketball Team Scores Two Straight Wins

 The women’s team currently stands at a 13-8 record, which consists of 8 wins and 2 losses against other CUNY colleges which bodes well for the team in the upcoming CUNYAC championships. In their 86-26 win against York College, Destiny Drummond was key to the game. Drummond scored 20 points shooting 7-10 from the field. Mary Dolgin also had her best game of the season, scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the evening. The women have started off all their games recently on a hot streak, which is key for them setting the tempo for the rest of the way.
