This past week, both the Brooklyn College men’s and women’s soccer teams played in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) tournament. The teams saw both wins and losses for the Bulldogs as each team tried to maintain their standing in the tournament. The women’s volleyball team continues to dominate winning multiple games.
Men’s Soccer
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the BC men’s soccer team faced off against the City College Beavers and lost 1-0 in another close game.
Though the Bulldogs displayed an array of tenacity and grit, City College took the lead in the first quarter. The Beavers’ Roderick Garrido would score the first goal of the game.
BC attempted to tie the game 12 minutes in via a shot from midfielder George Koufos, but the shot was blocked by City College’s goalie. The Bulldogs’ freshman goalie, Brian Perea, had four saves during the second half.
The Bulldogs’ next conference game took place on Saturday, Oct. 19 against the York College Cardinals. The Bulldogs started off with an early lead with a goal by Yasin Elsammak. The team would continue to score throughout the game, culminating with a victorious score of 7-0.
The Bulldogs hope to carry the victory into their next conference game against John Jay College on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
Women’s Soccer
On Wednesday, Oct. 16, The BC women’s soccer team faced off against the City College Beavers, and the game culminated in a 1-1 tie.
11 minutes into the first quarter, the Bulldogs’ freshman midfielder, Chelsea Gonzalez, would score a goal with an assist from fellow teammate Sage Bernstein, raising the score to 1-0. The Bulldogs’ goalie, April Hartje, continued her excellent defense with five saves this game.
City College tied the game 33 minutes into the quarter. Throughout the remainder of the game, neither team would be able to gain a second goal, culminating in a stalemate.
Their next game in the conference took place on Saturday, Oct. 19 against the Medgar Evers College Cougars. The Bulldogs brought home a whopping victory of 12-0, with the Bulldogs’ Chelsea Gonzalez leading the game with five assists.
The Bulldogs hope to continue their victory in their next conference game against John Jay College on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.
Women’s Volleyball
On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the BC women’s volleyball team played against York College at a conference game on their home turf. The Bulldogs swept in a score of 3-0. This extended their win streak to five after this conference.
The Bulldogs won each round via scores of 25-6, 25-2, 25-3. Aleah Rafat led the game with eight kills and two aces. Dinora Gomez had five kills and one block, Sydney Gdnaski had 3 kills and four aces, and Duncan Kela had two kills and two blocks.
The team played their next game outside of CUNYAC against the Arcadia University Knights on Saturday, Oct. 19. Though the Bulldogs took an early lead, the Knights quickly retook the lead. In the second set, the Bulldogs would trail behind the Knights by a few points, though ultimately, the victory would go to the Knights with a culminating score of 3-0.
BC hopes to bounce back in their upcoming game against the College at Old Westbury on Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
