Sports Recap (10/29 – 11/2)

  The Brooklyn College men’s and women’s soccer teams ended their seasons this week with losses in the CUNYAC semifinals. The women’s tennis team made the playoffs but ultimately lost, also ending their season. The women’s volleyball team continues on in their trials to make it to the CUNYAC Championships. 

 

Men’s Soccer 

   

   Playing against John Jay in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Bulldogs played the long game. As each team reared its head, the opposing team responded with stellar defense. Bulldogs’ goalkeeper Brian Perea would come in with several saves in different directions. The game remained 0-0, forcing the teams to go into overtime. By minute 103, the game was still tied. John Jay won the subsequent coin toss, allowing the team to kick first and score the first goal of the game. Midfielder Bradlej Cupi would immediately answer with a goal of his own, tying the game. BC wound up winning the game 4-2.

  The season came to an end on Saturday, Nov. 2 against Lehman College. Lehman scored 37 minutes in, and then again 56 minutes in. The Bulldog’s substitute goalie Hady Bakry would do his best to keep the game close, but the Bulldogs ultimately fell short 2-0, culminating in a loss at the end of their season.

Women’s Soccer

 

   In their last game of the season, the women’s soccer team played against Medgar Evers College on Tuesday, Oct. 29 and won via a score of 12-0. 23 seconds into the game, midfielder Zasu Alvarez would strike first and score a goal with help from teammate Juliana Hernadez. The Bulldogs would have nine goals in the first quarter of the game alone, all but solidifying their win for the game. Gianna DiPronio had two goals with five assists, Zasu Alvarez had two goals and three assists, Imani Dickens had two goals and one assist, and Sage Bernstein had one goal with three assists in the game.

   The Bulldogs entered the CUNYAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 against John Jay College. John Jay started off strong and remained in control the entire game, beating the Bulldogs 6-0. 

 

Women’s Volleyball

 

   On Thursday, Oct. 31, the Bulldogs played against the Hunter College Hawks. Hunter College won each round by scores of 15-25, 20-25, and 22-25. The Bulldogs would come close in the second and third rounds, but they unfortunately did not come up with the win. Aleah Rafat had 10 kills, Danielle Fuxman had three kills and one block, Olivia Fan had two kills and three blocks, and Magdalena Mackiewicz had two kills and one block. The Bulldogs lost via a score of 3-0. 

   The Bulldogs played their next game against Montclair State University on Saturday, Nov. 2. Rafat led the team on the offense, with aid from Dinora Gomez, Olivia Fan, and Meadow Andrews. The Bulldogs lost via a score of 3-0.

   The Bulldogs hope to bounce back in their next game against Baruch College on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Women’s Tennis  

 

   On Tuesday, Oct. 29, the Bulldogs played in the CUNYAC Championships semifinals against Hunter College. The Bulldogs fell short 5-0, a score that eliminated them from the CUNYAC Championships. They ended the year with a 3-11 record.
