Women’s Soccer Loses First Home Match Of The Season

With the women’s soccer team looking to secure their first win of the season, and with ten minutes left against Saint Elizabeth University in their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 5, the Bulldogs almost had their first win in arms reach. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were unable to close out the win. St. Elizabeth secured their second win of the season, scoring late to give them a 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
At the 80-minute mark, St. Elizabeth’s Milagros Rodriguez-Franco found the back of the net, scoring from 30 feet out to secure the match. Brooklyn had a total of four shots, including three shots on target, but was unable to finish them. St. Elizabeth had a total of 16 shots with nine on target.
Women’s Volleyball Loses First Two Games

The women’s volleyball team opened up their season on Wednesday, Sept. 6, against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Although it was a hard-fought game, the Bulldogs came up short, losing to USMMA 3-0. USMMA picked up their first win of the season, moving to 1-2 of the year.
The first set was extremely close as the Bulldogs came up short losing 25-21 in favor of USMMA with a game-high 11 kills. USMMA dominated the second set as this would set the tone for the rest of the game. Brooklyn was able to keep it close early on, but the home team retaliated with six unanswered points to close it out 25-13. In the third set, Brooklyn would go on to also keep it close earlier in the set in an attempt to hang on. Unfortunately, USMMA showed resilience and scored eight straight to end the match.
After facing their first loss of the season, the Bulldogs looked to avenge themselves. Despite their brilliant efforts, they came up short, losing their first home game of the season to St. Joseph’s Long Island 3-1 on Thursday, Sept. 7. As the Bulldogs moved to 0-2 to start the season, the Golden Eagles picked up their first win in their season opener.
As the Bulldogs led the first set 9-6, St. Joseph’s answered with a four-score rally that would allow them to take the rest of the first set. Brooklyn trailed early in the match 9-8, scoring five in a row to lead 13-9. With the second set tied 23-23, the Bulldogs put away the game to tie the match 1-1. St. Joseph’s then put away the third set as they cruised to go on and win to take the 2-1 lead. Brooklyn didn’t shy away as they fought a hard fourth set. The Bulldogs led 19-15 before the Golden Eagles responded with seven to close out the match.
Women’s Tennis Falls Short

For their opening match of the season, the women’s tennis team took on Sarah Lawrence College at home court on Saturday, Sept. 9. Sarah Lawrence improved to 2-1 with a 9-0 dominating victory. #3 doubles were close as Sahar Husain and Diana Rezk fell just short to Sarah Lawrence 8-8, (8-6). #6 singles was a close match to give the team some hope, but the Bulldogs’ Laziza Tolkunova fell to Nikita Kamath of Sarah Lawrence (6-4), (7-7), (6-5).
