Men’s Tennis

With the team closing their season on Senior Day, the Brooklyn College (BC) men’s tennis team delivered a 5-2 score against the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). The game took place on April 21 in the Roosevelt Tennis Courts.
Starting doubles off strong with a win in the first slot, Ryan Sham and Craig Pazarecki started the team off with a lead of 6-2. The next doubles pair, Mujibur Shaad and Allen Mardakhayev, would falter against their opponents with 1-6. In the final slot, however, Maximiliano Jarry Monroy and Ryan Badre-Hume were able to succeed with a 6-3, giving the team a solid start.
In the singles matches, USMMA would gain the upper hand with a winning 5-2 score. Sham would be the sole BC winner of the singles game with 22-15.
While the following game was set for April 24, the game has been rescheduled to an undisclosed future date.
The Bulldogs turned their luck around with their winning game against Hunter College with a score of 5-1. The game took place at the USTA National Tennis Center on April 27.
Beginning the game with a head start, with a first slot winning of 8-4, Sham and Pazarecki set the tone for the rest of the game. With the second slot suffering a major setback, Monroy and Badre-Hume worked together to set the doubles winning third slot score of 8-2.
In the single matches, the team dominated and gained the upper hand through all of the single matches, with the highest scores going to Shaad with 12-2, Mardakhayev with 12-5, and Badre-Hume with 12-4.
With this win, the BC Men’s tennis team will go into CUNYAC on May 1st.
Women’s Softball

With four games at two separate schools, the women’s softball team faced very different outcomes at the various locations. With the first two games being held at the BC field, the team went against Baruch College on April 23rd.
The first game started with Baruch taking an immediate three-run lead, but BC responded quickly and gained the upper hand in the second and sixth innings. The second game would be slower for both teams, with both teams being tied 2-2 well into the sixth inning. In the last inning, the Bulldogs would gain the upper hand and win a final score of 5-4.
Off a two-game winning streak, the women’s softball team would unfortunately lose their streak against The College at Old Westbury on the BC field, April 25th. In the first game, the first inning saw Old Westbury take a head start with 5-0, yet BC showed hope for improvement in the second inning by scoring 3 runs of their own. But throughout the game, the Bulldogs couldn’t score any more runs and lost 4-10. This would carry out into the team’s following second game with Old Westbury, where the team managed to score no runs throughout the game, giving way for a final score of 8-0.
The women’s softball team is aiming for the sky and will play their next game on May 3rd against Hunter College.
