The women’s basketball team made its season debut this week, the women’s volleyball team ended its regular season, and the men’s and women’s soccer teams were nominated for many awards this season.
Men’s/Women’s soccer
First-year coach Nathan Bell was nominated and awarded the CUNYAC Coach of the Year award. A great achievement and a reminder of Coach Bell’s outstanding first year, when he led the BC men’s soccer team to its best record in years. Freshman Andrew Gavrilov took home the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year award after an amazing first year at BC. Senior Niko Metreveli took home the CUNYAC Player of the Year award after an outstanding season and helped his team reach the conference finals in his final year.
Lastly, juniors Adam Moharam and Yassin Hairane, and sophomore Navruz Asatullaev were honored with CUNYAC All-Second Team honors. Asatullaev was also honored for his stellar sportsmanship this season as he was a great teammate both on and off the field.
Moving on to women’s soccer, teammates Alyssa Hardison, Julissa Chino, Gianna DiPronio, and Audrey Jane Young were all honored with CUNYAC’s 1st team all-conference. Senior Sage Bernstein was awarded the sportsmanship award.
Women’s Volleyball
On Nov. 4, the BC women’s volleyball team honored its senior players in their last home game of the season. Seniors Ruti Joshi, Amra Mulic, and Ayatallah Elktoby were celebrated for their four years on the team. Their opponents for this game were the familiar Medgar Evers College Cougars.
BC dominantly won this game, sweeping all three sets and winning 3-0. The sets went as follows: [25-6,25-5,25-10]. Safe to say this game wasn’t close and propelled by a great performance by everyone; they got the win.
Elktoby ended her senior night by having four kills, sophomore Meadow Andrews had three kills, freshman Ella Snobar had three kills, and freshman Saule Okeke-Ziburkus ended her day with three kills as well.
BC would go on the road for its last regular-season game against the Drew University Bears on Thursday, Nov. 6, in New Jersey.
Despite putting up a fight and staging multiple comebacks in this game, BC would lose its final game 3-0 and finish the season with a record of 12-15 while also being the number three seed in the division.
Each set was close and went as follows: [25-17, 25-17,21-25]. A great game by Joshi as she had 14 digs and six assists to end her night. Snobar had 10 kills, the most of the match; sophomore Danielle Fuxman had eight kills and two blocks, Elktoby had two kills and two blocks, and Okeke-Ziburkus ended with four kills.
With their regular season done, BC hopes to win the CUNYAC championship and will be hosting the sixth-seed Lehman College Lightning at home on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.
Women’s Basketball
On Friday, Nov. 7, the BC women’s basketball team made its season debut, winning its first game, 77-51, against Sarah Lawrence College.
BC was losing by halftime 32-29, but went on a 15-0 run in the second half to retake the lead and outscored Sara Lawrence 24-6 by the third quarter.
