Alternative international fashion meets Brooklyn College (BC) in the new club on campus, J-Fashion Club. The event focused on introducing the E-Board, establishing goals for the semester, and creating rainbow-colored beaded jewelry, also known as the Japanese subfashion called “Kandi.”
J-Fashion is clothing, accessories, and styles originating from Japan. With a variety of sub-fashions and various communities, J-Fashion has made its way to an international platform.
“There’s a lot of variety around [J-Fashion] and a bunch of substyles that have surfaced over the course of the past several years [..] I think it’s really interesting to see how people like to mix and match different sub-styles to create a whole different [substyles].”, said treasurer Elias Lac.
When asked about the club’s origins, Emma Katz, founding club president, stated the need for community.
“I see so many people like just bringing their interests into like the campus community […] so many people are interested in [J-Fashion] but they’re all kinda separate. I want to bring them together, hopefully, through the club,” stated Katz.
This event had tables with the materials needed to make “Kandi” jewelry, with students sharing advice on how to design their bracelets and helping others cut the elastic strings needed for bracelets.
With the success of their exposition event, the club hopes to create more community on campus.
Stated by Secretary Tai Lee, “ We want people to embrace J-Fashion, educate people who are interested, and create a community for those who are interested in J-Fashion.”
